PIPER’S STORY as told by her Mom…
On June 28, 2014, Piper, a terrified, 6 year old, brown Pitbull Mix was on the dreaded At Risk List and faced euthanasia. She had been bred continuously for years. When she outlasted her usefulness, she was dumped on a Brooklyn corner and tied to a pole with rope around her neck. Piper wasn’t a unique looking dog, she didn’t have a stellar behavior rating or perfect shelter notes. Years of unkind treatment had marred her appearance and broken her spirit. She had a huge 9″ road rash abrasion down her back from trying to free herself from the rope. She trembled uncontrollably and was really fearful.
I wasn’t looking for another dog. But, someone shared an Urgent Pets on Death Row list post with me and I felt compelled to make room for one more. When I saw Piper, I felt bad for her because I knew that it was unlikely someone else would come for her. I’m grateful every single day, that I saw that post and found her. She is far and away the most amazing dog and I can’t imagine life without her.
I hear people say “Don’t see a dog as it is in the shelter. See the dog it would be if it had YOU.” And nothing could be more true!
Please help us save all the other dogs and cats that would be overlooked, doomed and without a prayer if not for Urgent Pets On Death Row.
