The Story, as told by the Ready for Rescue…
As many of you know, Ready for Rescue is especially committed to the sick and injured cats and dogs that end up in New York City’s kill shelters. We often save the very last animals left on the kill list because we believe they are as deserving as any other animal but get neglected because their vet care is extraordinarily expensive. So, we need your help. Please read the following stories of just a few of the amazing animals we’ve recently saved and consider making a donation.
Torky — an utterly adorable (check out that bow tie) 8-year-old Shi Tzu. He came into the shelter with a massive ear and skin infection. The ear infection was so deply routed, it required an intricate surgery to cure the damage that had been done by years of neglect. Now he is a happy go lucky little guy who brings joy daily to his foster mom. The cost of his vet care: $3,500.
Truffle — a 9-year-old stunning Himalayan mix who was likely hit by a car. She suffered a broken pelvis and two torn ACL’s. And despite all that still solicited petting offering head butts. Our wonderful vets repaired the ACL’s (she’s already bearing weight on them after just a few days) and she is on the road to recovery. Cost of her surgery and boarding: $2,800.
Brandi — God, have you ever seen a cuter dog than this 9-year-old tiny Poodle mix?! She looks just like a piglet. Brandi wound up at the shelter with a glaucoma. It must have been incredibly painful has the pressure in her eye was very high. The only solution was to remove her which as you can guess is an intricate surgery. But now she enjoys being held like a little baby and being doted on like the princess she is. The cost of her surgery $1,800.
And then we have Misty, a 2-year-old Pit Bull that captured everyone’s hearts. Misty came into the shelter grossly underweight with scars all over her body and pronounced ataxia (poor coordination in her hind legs). Misty needed a variety of tests to determine all that was going on with her including an MRI. Turns out Misty had whip worm which was the cause of her emaciation. We cured that easily enough and she’s put on 10 pounds already. We also learned from the MRI that she has a degenerative neurological condition which gives her wobbly walk. But, while she won’t win any races, she’s walking much better than when she first came to us. The cost of Misty’s care: $2,400.
So please, if you can, donate to Ready for Rescue so we can continue our mission of helping New York’s neediest animals. And please do share!!
