Ian is still waiting for his New Beginning!
Ian is a special dog with special needs. He has been waiting for a special person to provide him with a FOREVER home!
Ian is an adorable, small (38lb) pit bull terrier mix and almost two years old. He is mildly hemophiliac and due to an old injury (before he came to our rescue) has a little bit of a funny walk with his back legs. However he is very mobile and loves to play and run and jump and fetch tennis balls! His current foster takes him on two-mile hikes daily and he does great. Ian can’t live with cats (he wants to chase them, and getting a bad swat from a claw is not a good idea for him). He is selective with his doggie friends — he loves, LOVES the big mellow male pit in his foster’s house but isn’t keen on the rather dominant female pit. Suffice to say he’d be fine with a mellow, playful dog his size or larger. He is great with the 5 year old child in the house, and generally good with strangers, but with certain people he can get protective of “his person”. However he crates great (and is easy to pick up and put in his crate, he’s so small). Ian is a special boy with a special wish to find his forever home. Can you help him out? Ian has been bounced around from foster to adopter to boarding. This sweet dog who is a mild hemophiliac and who suffered a terrible spinal injury causing paralysis of his hind legs needs a hero! Through rehabilitation, Ian has regained the use of his hind legs and is able to stand, walk and even run. But, he has waited so long for a home and it’s not fair! A dog who has gone through so much in his young life deserves the peace & security of a forever home.
Ian’s Inspirational Story of Rehabilitation…
At 10 months old, Ian was brought to a kill shelter with no use of his back legs. The wonderful people at Red Hook Dog Rescue were able to rehabilitate the use of his hind legs. The doctors thought the injury was most likely caused by being dragged either behind a car or some other way. In addition to having his hind legs injured Ian’s doctors also found that he is a hemophiliac. This means that Ian has to wear special booties outside so that he doesn’t cut his paws on the pavement. Red Hook Dog Rescue saved his life and has been on a journey ever since trying to find him a loving home.
Ian’s ideal forever home would be…
A home WITH at least one other dog. Relaxed & confident females or males are best. (But, an interaction can always be arranged to see if it’s a good fit.)
A home where a female would be his primary handler. Ian feels most comfortable with women which may have to do with the circumstances of his injury.
A home with a good amount of prior dog experience. (Prior experience with Special Needs dogs is not required but, would be great. Breed experience is also not required but, is a plus.)
